Amendments to Drivers and Vehicles Act protect you, the consumer

Recent amendments to The Drivers and Vehicles Act protect consumers by providing information about sanctions imposed by the Registrar of Motor Vehicles.

These amendments give Manitoba Public Insurance the authority to publish information about sanctions assessed against permit holders who fail to comply with the law and accepted business practices.

Sanctions may include suspending, cancelling, or refusing to renew a permit.

Permit holders include automobile dealers and salespersons, driver training schools and driving instructors, automobile recyclers, and inspection stations and mechanics that issue safety certificates for the sale and purchase of used vehicles.

This list will be regularly updated and includes the name and business address of the permit holder, the general nature of the act(s) that led to the sanction, and a description of the sanction and its duration. The sanctions listed are those assessed on or after June 17, 2010, when the legislation went into effect.
